Abstract

Metabolic disorders are those conditions in which there is an abnormality in one or more metabolic pathways, producing disease or impaired function. The central nervous system can be primarily involved by such a process or affected secondary to a severe generalized metabolic disturbance. The great majority of these disorders are hereditary; most are transmitted by autosomal recessive mechanisms.
