Summary
In this paper we propose a new method for control of the temperature of the SMA actuator using a Peltier effect device. The Peltier effect is a physical phenomenon in which heat generation or absorption at the junction of two different electric conductors or a conductor and a semi-conductor is induced by an electric current flowing into the junction. In this paper, firstly, the temperature control characteristics of the SMA (Cu-Al-Ni single crystal) due to the Peltier effect device are discussed. Secondly, a newly devised micro mechanical gripper using the SMA actuator controlled by the proposed temperature control method is introduced. Finally, the static and dynamic characteristics of the micro mechanical gripper are described.
