Promoters, Enhancers, and Inducible Elements for Gene Therapy

  • Chapter
Book cover Gene Therapeutics

Abstract

If the field of gene therapy of human diseases is in its infancy, attempts to modulate the expression of transferred genes is an endeavor which is still in gestation. The midwives to the birth of this area are those molecular biologists who are actively involved in the study of the control of gene expression. In particular, the tremendous surge of the last several years in understanding of the promoter elements and the protein factors involved in transcriptional regulation are beginning to find application to problems of gene therapy.
