Somewhere between the conception of an idea and the completion of an operating model it may occur to an inventor that he needs the protection offered by a patent. In deciding whether to apply for a patent or not, he should ask himself two basic questions: (1) Is the device patentable? and (2) Will the obtaining of a patent have any advantage for me? An affirmative answer to both questions may justify the expense involved in seeking a patent.
