Abstract
The die casting industry was one of the first to use industrial robots, with installations dating to 1961. One Unimate robot has logged over 90,000 hours of die casting production, the equivalent of over 45 man years (Ref. 1). The combined operation of all robots in die casting shops is in the millions of hours. Figures 1 and 2 show robots in use in die casting operations.
