Abstract

Today women employees are a positive, vital and necessary factor in our work force. Furthermore, it is anticipated that they will play an increasing role in the future. In 1945 there were 19,300,000 women employees in the United States. This number increased to 37,100,000 in 1975. It is estimated that in 1985 there will be 49,000,000 women employees in this country. Aside from sheer numbers, a second factor influencing the employment of women is the strong Federal and state legislation providing for nondiscrimination because of race, creed, or sex. This has resulted in women applying for or bidding on jobs which heretofore were open only to men.
