Abstract
Wherever a lightning protection system is installed, all of the design and installation care invested in it can come to nothing if the contents and depth of the soil is not known and provisions are not made for any potential problems. Visualize, for example, that a common system layout is drawn for two identical buildings to be located only 50 miles apart in Massachusetts. One structure will be at Boston and the other at Worcester, to the west.
