Abstract

We have seen in Chapter 1 that a PC can be thought of as a multilevel system, with the hardware at the lowest level. Perhaps the most difficult conceptual leap to make is from the hardware level to the next level up. It is certainly easy enough to imagine a bunch of electronic devices, motors, printed circuit boards, cables and so on. But how do you get them to do anything meaningful?
