Overview
This chapter introduces the important class of separable algebras. The concept of separability in this context is closely related to, and is in fact a generalization of, the classical concept of separable field extensions. The substance of the chapter is devoted to an analysis of separable free quadratic algebras and the conjugation automorphism. Throughout, R will be an arbitrary commutative ring.
