Abstract
Evidence strongly suggests that oncogene expression is an important factor in the initiation and development of a range of malignant tumours including carcinoma of cervix (Slamon, 1987). Some patients with histologically similar tumours at the same clinical stage treated the same way do better or worse than others. Prognosis, radiosensitivity and chemotherapy resistance may be affected by oncogene expression. Riou and colleagues (1987) have shown that surgically treated patients with early stage (I and IIa) disease whose tumours show c-myc overexpression have an eight-fold increase in the incidence of relapse compared to other patients.
