Abstract
The name “diamondlike” was apparently first coined by Sol Aisenbergl to describe the hard carbon films that he prepared by direct deposition from low energy carbon ion beams. It has been subsequently used rather indiscriminately to refer to many types of non-crystalline, hard carbonaceous films.
