Kynurenine and Mesangial-Proliferative Glomerulonephritis

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology ((AEMB,volume 294))

Abstract

The increased kynurenine and xanthurenic acid excretion in urine observed in calcium oxalate urolithiasis is related to the decreased activity of kynureninase (Grimm et al., 1986), i.e. a pyridoxal-5-phosphate (P-5-P)-dependent enzyme. The present work reports on relationships between kynurenine accumulation in blood serum and renal cell failure studied by analyzing kidney biopsies and histological sections in cases with experimentally induced P-5-P deficiency in rats.
