Abstract
During the last few years the genetic instability of Streptomycetes has been investigated very intensively. The main progress in this field took place since molecular alterations and rearrangements within the chromosomal DNA of these microorganisms have been detected. The study of related phenomena and processes are likely to be important in understanding genome structure and are also important from the commercial point of view as instability can cause strain degeneration and the loss of proficiency to produce antibiotics as well as the loss of resistance against both the strain’s own antibiotics and other ones.
