Abstract
The clinical importance of C. albicans requires the development of a genetic system in this organism for better understanding of its mechanism(s) of pathogenesis and to eventually develop improved therapies for candidal infection. Our previous studies focused on the attachment of the fungus to host mammalian tissues1–3. Those studies involved a specific C. albicans isolate-CBS562. We considered it important to develop a genetic system in this strain. Consequently, we describe herewith the isolation of an histidine auxotroph (his4), and isolation, characterization and chromosomal location of the homologous HIS4 gene.
