Abstract

Aldose reductase (ALR2; EC 1.1.1.21), a member of the monomeric NADPH-dependent aldoketoreductase family, has been strongly suggested to play a key role in the development of various diabetic complications (Gabbay et al., 1966; Engerman and Kern, 1984; Nishimura et al., 1987; Kinoshita and Nishimura, 1988).
