Abstract

In their quest for a quantum consistent unified theory of all fundamental interactions among elementary particles, theoretical particle physicists in recent years have been entertaining the idea1 that such a theory may be constructed within the framework of superstring theories1. As opposed to the previous attempts in the past fifteen years, all formulated within the framework of ordinary quantum field theory, superstring theories seem to possess the very same desirable properties that stimulated previous attempts as well as the resolution of problems which led to the dismissal of these attempts2,3,4.
