Formal Description of Transport Protocols

Protocol Specification and Testing

Abstract

The testing of state-transitions must be preceded by the unambiguous definition of the state-transitions. The textual protocol specification is not suitable for comparison so it is necessary to describe the standard in closed format which is well-comparable with the implementation. The formal description with finite-state machines [GILL-62] is the most frequently used at present.
