Laboratory Approach to an Outbreak of Nosocomial Infection: Systems and Techniques for Investigation

  • Chapter
Infection Control

Abstract

Dealing effectively with an outbreak of nosocomial infection requires confirmation of the identity of the outbreak, complete case-finding, comparison of current attack rates with usual baseline, characterization of epidemiologic features, development and implementation of control measures, and continuing surveillance to determine if control measures were successful in ending the episode.
