Abstract
Earlier investigators noted the tremendous vascularity of ovarian follicles (1–3). This rich blood supply is reflected by the large rate of blood flow to ovarian follicles compared with other tissues (4). During the estrous cycle, growth of vascular beds and increased blood flow accompanies tissue growth of developing follicles (1,2,4), whereas degeneration of follicular blood vessels occurs during atresia (1,5). These observations suggest that an-giogenesis is an important component of follicular function.
