Urate Binding Globulin, Interactions with Immunoglobulins

The presence of an urate binding to serum proteins may influence the deposition in joints, and the renal excretion of urate. So several authors have studied these interactions with different results. By use of an affinity chromatography procedure we demonstrated the presence of at least two different serum proteins which recognize urate: albumin and α-globulin (1). Application of this technique led to isolation and purification of the urate binding globulin from human serum (2). This protein, which migrates as α2 globulin is devoid of enzymatic activity, shows an apparent molecular weight of 70000 + 4000 Daltons and it has been partially characterized as previously reported (3). In this paper we describe the presence of an urate binding globulin-IgG complex in human plasma or plasma fraction III according to Cohn.
