Abstract

According to Greek mythology, Prometheus could not bear to see people suffer from the cold; and so he defied explicit instructions from Zeus in that he stole fire and gave it to mankind. Civilization could not have been built without fire, but fire still brings its share of environmental, ethical, moral, economic and social problems.
