Abstract

Textured superconducting thin films of Bi-Pb-Sr-Ca-Cu-O (BPSCCO) have been prepared by DC magnetron sputtering using a sintered target. The films were deposited on SrTiO3 and MgO substrates at room temperature. After deposition the films were annealed to 830–880°C in various partial pressures of oxygen. Our best films have zero-resistance temperatures of 77 K. Some samples had high Tc steps above 100 K. The x-ray diffraction (XRD) data show that the annealed superconducting films have the tetragonal phase (a=b=3.8Å, c=30.7Å) and the c-axis was perpendicular to the substrate surface. Transmission electron microscope (TEM) observations suggest that the textured superconducting thin films have stacking layer structure. Twist boundary, stacking faults and other defects were revealed directly by the TEM images.
