Summary
The analysis of the sensitivity of a gravitational wave detector shows that the role of the algorithms used for the analysis of the data is comparable to that of the experimental apparatus.
We discuss the response of an antenna to an incoming gravitational wave, deriving a mathematical model of the system, which is used for examining various algorithms of data analysis, including the optimum filter and the matched filter. A brief discussion of coincidence techniques, using two detectors, is also included.
