Influence of Prostaglandin E1 on Muscular Tissue-PO2 in Patients with Diabetic Gangrene

  • Chapter
Oxygen Transport to Tissue XI

Part of the book series: Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology ((AEMB,volume 248))

Abstract

A humid gangrene of the foot is a common complication in patients suffering from diabetes for many years. It is a multicausal disease which combines problems of neuropathy, macro- and especially micro-angiopathy. The surgical activities include vascular reconstruction, sympathectomy (with limited efficacy) and a whole spectrum of local measures. In spite of all therapeutic efforts a major amputation is often unavoidable.
