Artificial Insemination by Donor

Gender in Transition

Abstract

In this chapter, brief interview data from donor insemination recipients, consisting of married couples, single heterosexual women, homosexual women, and from donors themselves are complemented by authors’ commentaries regarding artificial insemination from medical and psychological vantage points. The intent is to highlight clinical interviews with pertinent psychodynamic and physiologic correlates of the procedure insofar as they suggest appropriate areas for further investigation. Such research concerns include the compilation of representative subject populations and control groups studied longitudinally and the delineation of biopsychosocial interaction variables in predicting general outcome and in identifying individuals at risk for negative sequelae.
