Abstract
Dr. Abraham, participants in this symposium and guests, I am delighted to be present on this occasion to honor the 100th anniversary of the NIH. This morning Dr. Badman described the history and the great achievements of the Institute and I am not going to repeat or amplify his remarks. When Dr. Abraham invited me to speak at this dinner, I was loathe to accept on the grounds that I am not a bench researcher nor have I been an in house member of the NIH staff. However, I represent a vast group of clinical investigators, teachers of medicine and practicing physicians and all of us owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to the NIH.
