Abstract
The Guidelines for the Determination of Death provide two separate diagnostic pathways, the clinical pathway and the irreversible ischemic pathway, by which diagnosis of clinically suspected brain death may be confirmed (President’s Commission for the Study of Ethical Problems in Medicine and Biomedical and Behavioral Research, 1981).
