Abstract
An institutional approach to brain death was first undertaken at Childrens Hospital of Los Angeles (CHLA) by an Ad Hoc Committee during the 1970s. Subsequent modification of the initial guidelines has been an ongoing process by the Divisions of Neurosurgery and Neurology. CHLA does not now nor ever did have an official position on the criteria for brain death.
