Time-Resolved Kinetics of Organometallic Reactions in the Gas Phase by Transient Infrared Absorption Spectrometry

  • Chapter
Gas Phase Inorganic Chemistry

Part of the book series: Modern Inorganic Chemistry ((MICE))

Abstract

Chemical change is a science of intermediates. Reactive molecules and fragments guide the chemistry of multicomponent systems and determine the stereospecific outcomes of individual reactions. Organometallic chemistry is among the richest of all for its transient species. Metal-centered intermediates variously appear and disappear via oxidative addition, insertion, metallocyclization, and their reverse reactions.(1) Progress in stoichiometric synthesis as well as catalysis depends on the accurate knowledge of the intermediate forms at work in these and other organometallic transformations.
