Abstract

Behavior therapy includes a number of diverse techniques for treating a wide range of psychosomatic disorders. In behavior therapy for psychosomatic disorders, the therapist draws on the general principles and procedures of behavior therapy in adjusting the therapy to the individual’s specific problems. These behavioral principles and procedures are derived from experimental research in psychology; they originated in the classical and opérant conditioning described in Part II of this volume. A brief summary of a few of these methods is followed by a description of their application to particular psychosomatic disorders (Davidson, 1976; Lazarus, 1981; Turner, 1984; Wilson & Lazarus, 1983; Wolpe, 1980).
