Abstract
The progress of minorities into top-level management positions has been very slow. As a result, many black managers leave the corporate world and start their own businesses (e.g., Hymowitz, 1984). In his discussion of these low-advancement prospects, Carnevale (1985) suggested that a two-track career system exists for blacks with a relatively small group of “haves” and a larger group of “have-nots.”
