Abstract

Children with short stature, a normal RIA GH response to provocative stimuli, delayed bone age and a decreased growth rate for age comprise a heterogenous group (1–7). An inadequate growth rate in prepubertal children suggests deficits of growth promoting factors and/or hormones or the inability to respond to them (8–20). The term “short normal” children is an inappropriate designation for these children.
