Abstract
Cell mediated immune responses were decreased in patients with chronic renal failure (CRF) and this deficiency was shown to be mainly dependent on toxic or inhibitory serum factors. In previous study we have reported the isolation of a crude fraction from uremic sera with immunosuppressive properties 1,2. This crude fraction which has a molecular weight (MW) below 5.000 daltons, inhibits markedly the lymphocyte proliferation induced by several mitogens or by allogeneic cells1. Further attempts to purify and characterize this immunosuppressive factor are presented. The inhibitory effect of each eluate fraction on in vitro lymphocyte proliferation has been assessed at each step of purification.
