Analysis of Elevated Temperature Property of Heat Resistant Materials by Internal Friction Method

  • Chapter
Nondestructive Characterization of Materials II

Abstract

Designs of advanced heat resistant materials are highly complicated and at high temperatures various strengthening and weakening mechanisms are operative simultaneously. However, usual characterization methods such as creep tests are not necessarily suitable for analyzing the contributions of the individual mechanisms. In this paper, as a nondestructive way of the above type of analysis, the internal friction method is proposed, and details of the technique devised for measurements at very high temperatures are presented together with results of applications to ODS (oxide dispersion-strengthened) NiCr alloy (MA-754) and sintered silicon nitrides.
