Abstract
Christopher Tietze’s contributions to reproductive health and human welfare rest on three foundations. These are his systematic, wide-ranging data collection; his lucid, objective analyses of data; and his creative scientific imagination. The latter allowed him to ask significant questions of data and to explore models in quest of answers. Tietze brought his powers to bear on questions of science and of policy with an energy that seemed to increase with the increasing range of his effects.
