Abstract

The kinins, including the nonapeptide bradykinin (BK) as well as several other peptide analogues of BK, have been known since their initial discovery (Rocha e Silva, 1949) to be highly active in a number of peripheral organ systems. The recent explosion of research on brain peptides has renewed interest in the possibility that kinins may also play roles as neuropeptides. In this chapter I review evidence that BK and other kinins may be acting as neuroactive peptides, especially in the central nervous system.
