Abstract

For many years, the only means of evaluating the respiratory tract had been plain film radiography, tomography, and radiopaque contrast examinations such as bronchography and laryngography. Gradually radionuclide studies were added to the diagnostic armamentarium of the radiologist, and in recent years ultrasound has been found useful as well. However, computerized tomography (CT) has become the primary examination for evaluation of thoracic disease following the initial chest radiograph.
