Abstract

The primary screening procedure and most accurate technique for evaluating the breast has been plain-film mammography. In recent years, ultrasound has been a useful procedure in conjunction with mammograms, especially in younger patients or those in whom cystic and solid lesions must be differentiated. Occasional masses have been detected on computerized tomography (CT). It is now hoped that magnetic resonance imaging may be able to supplement or perhaps even replace mammography in more definitive evaluation of breast lesions.
