Abstract

This chapter deals with disease processes, both benign and malignant, involving the facial bones, paranasal sinuses, orbits, mouth, salivary glands, and respiratory system proximal to the trachea (pharynx and larynx). Prior to the advent of newer noninvasive imaging modalities the radiographic evaluation of these structures had been largely limited to plain-film tomography or more invasive contrast studies such as sialography, laryngography, and, occasionally, angiography or venography in limited circumstances.
