Generation and Characterization of Human T-Cell Hybridomas That Constitutively Produce Immune Interferon

  • Chapter
Human Hybridomas and Monoclonal Antibodies

Abstract

Regulation of immune responses by T lymphocytes is mediated mainly by the release of soluble factors, which can be either specific (Lonai et al., 1981; Sorensen et al., 1983) or nonspecific (Pick, 1980; Pierce and Kapp, 1980). Studies on the structure and function of these important mediators have been hampered by the great heterogeneity of crude preparations from lymphoid cell cultures induced with mitogens or antigens, and by the insufficient amounts of material available for characterization in such preparations. Construction of T-cell hybridomas by somatic cell hybridization techniques has allowed us to overcome these obstacles.
