The Production of Monoclonal Antibodies by Human—Human Hybridomas

Their Application to Studies of Autoimmune Diseases

  • Chapter
Human Hybridomas and Monoclonal Antibodies

Abstract

In this chapter we review our experience with the human—human hybridoma technology and compare our results with those of others. We also provide a brief review of our results in the analysis of human monoclonal lupus autoantibodies. A more comprehensive review of applications of hybridoma technology to studies of human autoimmune disease has been published elsewhere (Shoenfeld and Schwartz, 1984). Anyone just beginning to use the hybridoma method with human lymphocytes should appreciate that the technology is in a state of flux. Many of the methodological details are bound to change as new fusion partners and other improvements become introduced. Nothing written here should be considered as the final word on the topic.
