Abstract
It has been more than 20 years since 6-mercaptopurine was successfully used for the first time in the treatment of malignant trophoblastic neoplasms in the Capital Hospital in 1958. Since then, a total of four effective drugs have been found, and a dramatic improvement in prognosis of the patients has been achieved, resulting in permanent cure of this group of tumors. The overall results of treatment were reported in 1979 (1). To provide a general principle for the selection of a proper chemotherapeutic agent for clinical use, it is mandatory to evaluate each drug individually. The purpose of this paper is to present the therapeutic results of 5-fluorouracil used as a single agent in the treatment of malignant trophoblastic neoplasms.
