Abstract
So far, neither the studies of blood-brain barrier (BBB) nor of the isolated cerebral microvessels permitted investigation of the capillary endothelial function per se. Since the endothelium is the primary barrier between the blood and the brain and might be under neurohormonal regulation it became essential to develop a model system in which the endothelial properties and their response to vasoactive substances could be tested in the living state.
