DNA Transfer into Animal Cells

  • Chapter
Genetic Engineering in Eukaryotes

Part of the book series: NATO Advanced Science Institutes Series ((NSSA,volume 61))

Abstract

The introduction or the reintroduction of cloned genes into eukaryotic recipients is somewhat of a paradox. It is often necessary to check the functional integrity of a cloned cDNA or chromosomal gene, or to study the expression of a gene normally in the repressed state. The complementation of defective animal cells can be studied in vitro by gene transfer.
