Abstract

Biochemical criteria have been used to characterize blood monocytes as well as resident and elicited macrophages. While biochemical assays determined on cell lysates or cell free supernatants provide important information, similar studies carried out at the single cell level could assess both activity and heterogeneity. If several assays could be carried out simultaneously, the relationship between different markers on the same cell could be studied.
