Pulmonary Alveolar Macrophage Chemotaxis in Malignant Tumors of the Lung

  • Chapter
Macrophages and Natural Killer Cells

Part of the book series: Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology ((AEMB,volume 155))

Abstract

It has been shown that the presence of a tumor suppresses chemo-tactic responses of macrophages (1–3). Pulmonary alveolar macrophages function as primary effector cells against microorganisms that reach the lungs, yet their function in the control of primary and/or metastatic tumors in man is poorly understood.
