Abstract
The myeloid system is designed to combat bacterial invasion. Nonactivated myelopoiesis is rapidly capable of responding to onwarding infection. The mechanisms by which activating impulses are mediated are not completely understood. This survey aims to elucidate early myeloid reactions to gram-negative infection in normal and myeloid leukemic individuals. It is shown that this response involves consequences both for the proliferation and defense function of myelopoiesis as well.
