Abstract

Ethanol is a powerful inducer of hyperlipemia in both animal and man. This effect is an interesting part of the confused and far from clear correlation between alcohol and cardiovascular disease. This review will refer some of the more relevant aspects of this relationship stressing both the data pointing to alcohol as a protective factor for the myocardium and the data indicating alcohol as a source of myocardial damage.
