Abstract
Mrs. Christ has emphasized in her presentation that cancer is a serious, life threatening, chronic illness. Even though prognosis and life expectancy have changed drastically during the last two decades, the close connection between cancer and death has not yet changed. Until this final end point is reached, treatment is often prolonged, painful, debilitating and, in certain cases, mutilating. The psychological impact of these factors has become a major focal point in the treatment of cancer by mental health professionals.
