Abstract
The Feminist Movement has led women to question traditional feminine roles in all areas of life, including marriage, family, career, relationships, and sexuality. These questions have led to discomfort and conflict for many women, usually associated with the crisis affects of anxiety, fear, confusion, and sadness, and their symptomatic counterparts. The discomfort of those women seeking professional help frequently cannot be assuaged by traditional psychotherapeutic approaches. Nor can they frequently be worked out by less traditional therapies, including Gestalt therapy, Transactional Analysis, and those psychotherapeutic approaches that have evolved from the Human Potential and Humanistic Psychology movements. Consciousness-raising and women’s support groups have been beneficial for some women, but have limited value for others.
